ENHANCED CLINICAL COMMUNICATION WORKSHOP 2018

Communication errors are the biggest cause of patient dissatisfaction resulting in violence and legal problems. To enhance the communication skills of clinicians and nursing staff and to minimize these issues and improve patient satisfaction, CAHO & AHPI organised a one day "Enhanced Clinical Communication Workshop" in association with Lourdes Hospital at Kochi on 17th November, 2018 under the leadership of Mrs. Dhanya Michael, Quality Systems Officer.

Dr. Badari Datta from Banglore Baptist Hospital was the lead faculty. The other members of the training team were Dr. Pratheesh Ravindran, Dr. Reju Joseph Thomas and Dr. M Prabhakar.

The healthcare professionals from various hospitals attended the workshop. Great enthusiasm and active involvement was seen among the participants during role plays, interactions and group activities. Around 41 participants including clinicians, nurses and administrators attended the workshop actively. Pre test and post test were also conducted.

The registration process started at 8am. The inauguration ceremony began with the auspicious presence of Fr. Shaiju Augustine Thoppil (Director), Dr. Paul Puthuran (Medical Superintendent), Dr. Badari Datta and his team and Ms. Dhanya Michael (QSO). After lamp lightening Fr. Shaiju delivered welcome address and warmly welcomed all trainers and participants. The training-workshop was opened at 8:45am by Dr. Badari Datta.

  • Listening Skills
  • Breaking Bad News (Role Play)
  • Unacceptable Communication
  • Preventing and Handling Aggressive and Assertive Patients (Role Play)
  • Styles of Communication
  • Handing over Tools: ISBAR
  • Personality Styles (Group Activity)

Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Joice, participant and feedback of the workshop was given by Dr. Annie, participant. Memento was awarded to all trainers by Sr. Sarita Philip (Nursing Superintendent). Feedback form was collected from all participants. The workshop was closed by Dr. Badari Datta at 5:00 pm.
